How to Do a Free SEO Audit of Any Page
A free SEO audit checks a page against the on-page, technical, content and performance signals that decide whether it ranks. Here is a checklist you can run in minutes.
An SEO audit is a health check for a page: does it give search engines what they need to understand, trust and rank it? You do not need an expensive tool to run one. Here is a checklist that covers the signals that actually move rankings.
On-page basics
- Title tag: unique, descriptive, roughly 30 to 60 characters.
- Meta description: 120 to 160 characters that earn the click.
- One H1that matches the page’s intent, with a sensible heading hierarchy under it.
- Canonical tag pointing to the right URL, so duplicates do not split signals.
Content
- Enough depth to genuinely answer the query, not thin filler.
- Clear structure, headings, lists, a direct answer near the top.
- Internal links to and from related pages.
Technical
- Indexable: not accidentally blocked by robots or a noindex tag.
- Mobile-friendly and served over HTTPS.
- Fast: check response time and page weight.
- Structured data where it fits (Article, FAQ, Organization).
Running all of this by hand on every page is tedious. Our free Page Audit checks a URL against ~42 of these signals across on-page, content, technical, performance and social, and hands you a score, a grade, and a prioritized list of what to fix. For a whole site, use Site Audit.
Do not forget the AI side
A page can pass a classic SEO audit and still be invisible to AI answers. Once the SEO basics are green, check whether the page is citable with the GEO Content Score and whether AI engines name you with the GEO Tracker. Ranking and getting cited are two different wins, see SEO vs AI visibility.
